The department is responsible
for providing the following services to our community :
|
| Fire Suppression |
| Response
to incidents involving fire to protect lives and minimize damage
to property. |
| Medical calls |
Firefighters
are trained as First Responders for medical emergencies. This "First
Responder" response is a part of the pre-hospital medical care
system in the Province of British Columbia. Dispatch of Fire/Rescue "First
Responders" is determined by the Medical Priority Dispatch System
currently administrated by the BC. Ambulance Service. The department
has in service an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) on its
first response apparatus. The AED delivers crucial care to patients
in cardiac arrest. |
| Motor Vehicle
Accidents
|
| The
department is equipped with rescue equipment, "Jaws of Life" that
are used for auto extrication. Firefighters also attend MVA's for
fire suppression, medical assistance, fuel leaks, environmental
protection, and to secure the scene for the safety of other emergency
responders. |
| Rescue and
Safety
|
| The
department responds to a wide range of miscellaneous incidents.
Some examples are people trapped in elevators, oil or fuel spills,
electrical problems, damage to gas lines and complaints of various
types. |

Fire Prevention |
| Regular
inspections are done on all commercial ( minimum 1 per year ) and
multi-residential buildings ( minimum 2 per year ) to ensure the
requirements of the B.C Fire Code are maintained, and to identify
potential hazards. These inspections are carried out by the on
duty Fire Crew and the Chief Officers of the W R F/R D. |
| Public Education
|
| The
department supports and promotes national and local programs in
fire safety. Programs are presented to a variety of groups including
pre-school, school and condominium groups. During fire prevention
week the department hosts an open house which includes static and
operational displays. |
| Fire Investigation
|
| Fires are investigated to determine the cause
and origin. Reports are completed as required for legal, insurance
and the Provincial Fire Commissioner. |
|
In addition to providing
the services listed, the fire crews are responsible for :
• Training
Crews train regularly
to maintain their skills and to keep their various certificates current.
• Maintenance of Equipment and Apparatus
Crews
do regular checks and maintenance to all the departments equipment
and apparatus.
• General Maintenance of Fire Hall |
