The Development Services Department - Planning provides professional and technical advice to City Council on the management of growth and change in the City, with an emphasis on land use and built form. Planning is responsible for the implementation of policies relating to land use, economic development, housing and neighbourhoods, environmental protection, and other matters as set out in the City's Official Community Plan. Planning is responsible for formulating and maintaining the City's land use policies. The key policy which guides development within the City is White Rock's Official Community Plan. An Official Community Plan is a general statement of the objectives and policies respecting the physical and social development of the City. Current Projects Council has been considering making amendments to the Official Community Plan to provide more detailed direction regarding residential infill housing, architectural design, tree preservation and development in environmentally sensitive areas.As a next step in the process, a public information meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 to gather input from the community on the proposed amendments. At this meeting an overview of the proposed changes will be presented followed by a question and answer period.
