Who requires a Business Licence?
Bylaw No. 1510 is
a bylaw respecting the granting of licences and the regulation of businesses.
No person shall carry on a business for profit or gain within the City of
White Rock without holding a valid licence for the business so carried on.
All businesses, including registered non-profit operations, are required
to have a valid Business Licence. Retail, commercial and industrial operations,
as well as the owners of rental residential properties must have a valid
Business Licence.
Business Licences are required for any company conducting business in the
City of White Rock, whether located in our jurisdiction or not.
The application is forwarded for approval from the Permits & Licences Department
to the Fire Department, RCMP, and Health Department.
General information on Business Licence
Applications
All applications for licences under this bylaw shall be made to the
Inspector on the application form provided for that purpose. There are two
types of application forms available, Home Based Business and Regular Business.
Our Business Licence year runs from May 1st to April 30th the following
year.

How to apply for a Business Licence?
Business Licence applications are available from the Permits & Licences
Department located on the lower level of City Hall. Applicants are required
to:
- Describe the nature of the proposed business
- Provide the correct business address and/or
mailing address
- Give the correct number of employees (full and
part-time)
- Provide Provincial Government certificate of
qualifications if required
- Provide payment of the appropriate fee

What is the general fee structure?
Fees vary with the type of business. Those licence fees are set out
in the current Licence Bylaw 1510. A proportionate reduction is given
twice during the business year. For more information please contact our

Required Approvals
In order to obtain a Business Licence in the City of White Rock, various
approvals are required:
• Zoning:
Depending on the zoning of the proposed location,
your business may or may not be permitted. To determine whether your type
of business is permitted in the area you have chosen please contact the
Permits & Licences Department at (604) 541-2139 or the City Planner at
(604) 541-2142.
• Building:
To carry on any business, an occupancy approval
of the proposed building is required. This may or may not require a Building
Permit. You might want to check with the Building Inspector at (604) 541-2136
prior to signing a lease.
**It may be necessary to obtain approval from the Health, Fire and/or
RCMP departments before your Business Licence can be issued
